Preamble

A Commitment to Change: Supporting the Children of Security Guards

My father was born in 1944 into a polygamous family and faced significant challenges throughout his life. Due to financial constraints and a lack of focus on education, he did not have the opportunity to pursue formal schooling. He eventually became a security guard at one of the public universities in Kenya. Leaving my mother and siblings behind in our rural home, he braved cold nights and harsh working conditions to provide for us. His meager earnings of Kes 5,000 per month were hardly enough for a family of eight.

When he retired in 2009, my father found that his children were either in or on the verge of starting high school. His pleas to the security firm for an extension of his employment contract for at least four more years went unanswered. At the time of his retirement, I had just received an admission letter to a National Secondary School. Unfortunately, my father’s terminal dues of Kes 90,000 couldn’t even cover my admission fee or the other requirements, even after I had adjusted my application to a Provincial school.

This heartbreaking experience marked a turning point in my life. I promised myself that one day I would establish a foundation dedicated to meeting the educational needs of bright children of security guards. My mission is to support that one child—the beacon of hope for every security guard and breadwinner who stands guard over our buildings, businesses, and events.

Will you join me on this journey? Together, we can uplift these children and provide them the opportunities that were not available to my father. Your support can help ensure that their dreams do not go unfulfilled, and that they have the chance for a brighter future.
